Human beings are social animals. And therein lies the problem–relationship troubles affect us deeply. A breakup is a psychologically painful event. People deal with the rejection and loss of self-esteem in different ways. Some become depressed; some even try to commit suicide. Counselling can help people process their feelings and stop themselves from taking extreme steps.
When you’re fresh out of a breakup, you feel the urge to do something immediately that you think will make you feel better. Look at the list below and make sure that you never do these 5 things:
Post on social media.
Resist the urge to relate your heartache to the world, even if it is in a passive-aggressive manner. You do not get any sincere sympathy in this way. You only become fodder for gossip. If you and your partner are friends on Facebook, unfriending him or her will help you maintain the distance that is necessary for you to heal. Once you have removed him or her from your friend’s list, do not try to stalk him or her to see how he is faring. Just stop!
Beg to be taken back.
If you have broken up, let it remain that way. Don’t beg your partner to take you back, irrespective of whose fault it was. If your partner is not in a forgiving mood or simply does not want you any more, he or she will reject you again. You will only have caused yourself more unnecessary pain.
Look for revenge.
Seeking revenge will not help you. It will not lessen the pain or diminish the resentment. You may land in legal trouble if you destroy property. So, work on using up all that energy on productive things.
Get in touch with your ex.
A breakup is a breakup. There is no going back. Don’t try to get in touch with your ex by any means–text message, phone call, or social media. You are only setting yourself up for more hurt and rejection.
Try to be “friends.”
It is not possible to be “friends” with someone who has wronged you. Do not confuse yourself by trying to pretend like nothing bad happened or by trying to hang on to the last shreds of the relationship.
